The St. Kizito Library is Popular with Students!

s many of you will recall, there was an article posted a few months ago in February about the donation of chairs received by the St. Kizito library in Gulu, Uganda. The chairs were donated by a former St. Kizito student, Sharon Ocwee Opio. These chairs were very appreciated! The reason is that the St. Kizito library is a popular place to access textbooks as well as a place to find good books to read for pleasure. It welcomes, on average fifty to eighty students daily. Students come to read, study, research, and for discussions.

The library has close to 400 books – and is considered to have the best selection in Gulu.  One must bear in mind that most schools have a limited number of textbooks and the majority of students cannot afford personal copies.  The St. Kizito Library makes textbooks available for students to use at the library.  In fact, all books are available for use or to be read in the library – no books are loaned out.  It is easy to understand, as mentioned in the February post, why a St. Kizito board member was so impressed by how quiet the library was – as mentioned in that post – the library was full of students and all were deeply engaged in their studies.  The library serves St. Kizito scholars – but it also welcomes other students as well.

The two photographs posted with this article show the multipurpose hall (above) and the book selection area (below).

The St. Kizito Foundation is very grateful to its’ donors for their generosity which makes the library and learning possible!

Together We Can Make It!

St. Kizito Foundation supports approximately 300 students in their education and life.  We have students at all levels of study, although our primary focus is to provide our participants with sufficient and appropriate education so that they may earn a living and have a successful life.

Our students are in schools of their choice, based on school and government standards of acceptance.  Students are assisted by St. Kizito counselors and staff in determining the best placement.

On these pages, we hope to give you a glimpse of the treasure we believe our participants to be.  Enjoy, and feel free to offer communication or words of wisdom that we can forward to Uganda!
