he St. Kizito Foundation is pleased to introduce Sr. Assumpta – a sister from the Order of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Sr. Assumpta is presently visiting the United States – specifically Northeastern Ohio – as she is on sabbatical from her duties as a teacher and Administrator at St. Monica School for Girls in Gulu, Uganda.

Sr. Assumpta credits her parents with her vocation. Her parents were faith filled practicing Catholics. Her mother was a very prayerful person gathering their family for the rosary and prayer. “She taught us to have a servant’s heart,” said Sr. Assumpta referring to her mother who encouraged her children to be of service especially to the poor and elderly.

onderful news was received today from our St. Kizito Administrator, Chris, in Uganda. He shared that St. Kizito was the beneficiary of a much-needed donation of fifty chairs for the St. Kizito library.

First, let me begin by telling you a little about the St. Kizito library. It is a two-room library that St. Kizito students, as well as members of the nearby community, can use. Students are not permitted to take books home from school; rather they are collected at the end of each day. If a student wishes to study or read, he/she needs to visit the library. Students walk for miles to go to the library to read and study there. A St. Kizito board member, who visited Uganda this past summer, was struck at how quiet the library was – full of students and all were deeply engaged in their studies. He also noted that the library had no monitor to maintain the silence. The fifty chairs will be a welcome sight at the St. Kizito library – making trips to the library not only enjoyable but more comfortable too!

he annual fall fundraiser for the Saint Kizito Foundation took place a few weeks ago on Saturday, October 22, 2016.

The event started with mass celebrated by Father Donald Dunson at Saint Ladislas Church in Westlake. A fun filled dinner event took place immediately following mass in Cullen Hall at Saint Ladislas.

The hall was filled with great music and lively conversation while attendees scoped out silent and Chinese auction items and browsed and purchased beautiful African bead work. Many opted to memorialize the evening by taking a photo booth picture.
