About Us

As Saint Teresa of Calcutta wrote, "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples." At the St. Kizito Foundation, our work to support Ugandan youth in their primary, secondary, and vocational education endeavors ripples across the waters from our headquarters in Northeast Ohio to the schools we serve in Africa.

Founded in 2001 by Fr. Donald Dunson and officially formed as a nonprofit organization in 2009, St. Kizito is a scholarship foundation that provides school tuition and room & life needs, such as room, board, and clothing to students, primarily in Gulu and Kampala, Uganda. For the past two decades, we have supported an average of 300 students annually as they complete their primary, secondary, and vocational education journeys.

Discover Our Mission

Our Work

The St. Kizito Foundation provides educational opportunities for Ugandan youth, allowing them to shape their future. We accomplish our mission by providing funds for primary, secondary, and vocational education, including tuition, room & board, and by growing in solidarity with those we serve through prayer, communication, building strong relationships, and cultural understanding.

The St. Kizito Foundation's work spans two continents. While our Board of Directors and fundraising operate in the United States, we employ two staff members in Uganda who oversee the students and schools we support. Our staff members ensure that schools place students in proper academic programs and help students to take full advantage of the educational opportunities that our generous donors provide.

"Everlasting Hope"

In the summer of 2017, five St. Edward High School film students—Patrick Adams, Rashaad Bacchus, Jack Brancatelli, Austin Jaks, and Joseph Rigutto—traveled to Uganda to film a short documentary chronicling the St. Kizito Foundation's work. The finished documentary, titled "Everlasting Hope: The Story of the St. Kizito Foundation," was a finalist at the 2018 iMagine Film Festival in Cleveland.

The film captures the importance of our work at the St. Kizito Foundation through the stories of school staff, students, families, and alumni. Additionally, "Everlasting Hope" underscores the true impact that every dollar our generous donors give has on students in Uganda. As the film emphasizes, some primary, secondary, or vocational education is better than no education at all.
