The St. Kizito Foundation is excited to be a CIFF46 Community Partner with “The Night I Left America” for this year’s festival. Discover the film in our blog.

The St. Kizito Foundation is excited to announce its participation in the 46th Cleveland International Film Festival’s (CIFF46) Community Engagement Program! CIFF46 marks the return to in-person screenings for the first time since spring 2020 at its new home in Playhouse Square from March 30 – April 9, followed by CIFF46 Streams online from April 10 – April 17.

We are fortunate to partner with the film “The Night I Left America,” a short narrative from the United States and Uganda. The film tells the story of a teenage boy living in Texas, anxiously awaiting the results of his mother’s visa renewal request. While awaiting the government’s decision for a visa, the boy reflects on his time in the US and Uganda, realizing the true meaning of wealth and riches. The film weaves in some religious motifs and a touching representation of Ugandan culture.

“The Night I Left America” beautifully aligns with St. Kizito’s 2022 theme of “Stewards with gifts to serve one another.” As humans living in a collective world, one of the greatest gifts we can provide one another is the gift of education. The generosity of St. Kizito’s donors makes the scholarships we provide students in Uganda possible. Moreover, receiving an education completely changes the trajectories of our scholars’ lives. They gain the tools needed to lift themselves, their families, and their communities out of poverty, provide for themselves, and enjoy the benefits of a healthy and fulfilled life.

The St. Kizito Foundation welcomes our community to attend the Family Shorts 1 Program with “The Night I Left America” on Saturday, April 02 at 9:15 AM. You can also stream the short online during CIFF46 Streams. We also encourage all to take advantage of the over 300 feature and short films part of CIFF46 at Playhouse Square and online. For more information and to see the full program lineup, visit clevelandfilm.org.

Tickets for in-person screenings are $16 ($14 for CIFF members) while virtual screenings are $10 ($8 for CIFF members). Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 11 at 11:00 AM for CIFF members and next Friday, March 18 at 11:00 AM for all others. Be sure to use our discount code SKF for $1 off each ticket.
